“the Godzilla of the Vancouver jazz scene”—Georgia Straight

Should you stay or go? Enter-Exit is a psychedelic, visually-inspired, non-linear theatrical experience with an all-star cast of musicians, dancers and theatre artists. Whether in love, life, space or the mind, points of entrance and exit form the thematic core of this high-energy, interdisciplinary work driven by music.

Known for their large-scale, highly entertaining multimedia events, the Hard Rubber Orchestra has been described as the only ensemble of its kind on the planet. Under the direction of composer, conductor and trumpeter John Korsrud, the company has delighted local and international audiences. Previous works include The Ice Age: The World’s Worst New Music Ice Show, performed at Kerrisdale Arena and featuring the talents of hockey players, curlers and figure skaters, including Olympic gold medalist Emmanuel Sandhu; White Hot Core, a collaboration with Kokoro Dance; and The Elvis Cantata, (featuring Sook-Yin Lee and Joe Keithley at St. Andrew’s Wesley Church) which took an irreverent look at pop icons.

Enter-Exit features new compositions by John Korsrud, Giorgio Magnanensi and Brad Turner played by an 11-piece ensemble. Multiple film, video and computer projections fill the VECC, and choreographer Martha Carter adds an extra dynamic element with movement for four dancers. Enter-Exit is performed by musicians Bernie Arai, Sal Ferreras, John Korsrud, André Lachance, Peggy Lee, Giorgio Magnanensi, Bill Runge, Ron Samworth, Brad Turner, Rebecca Whitling and Marguerite Witvoet, with lighting by James Proudfoot, set design by Andreas Kahre, footage by Brian Johnson, and projections by HoneyBee Visuals, Riel, and jamie griffiths.

Enter-Exit is the winner of the Alcan Performing Arts Award: Music 2005. Next year’s winner, in the discipline of dance, will be announced at a press conference on March 4, 2005. Enter-Exit runs March 2-5 at 8pm. Tickets are $30, or $22 for students and seniors; group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Enter-Exit is also part of the VECC’s 2004-05 subscription series. Subscribers can see three shows in the VECC’s 2004-05 season for just $60. Tickets and subscriptions are available through Ticketmaster at 604-280-3311 or www.ticketmaster.ca. For group sales or more information, call 604-251-1363.
