The 18-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra takes you on a high-energy, genre-smashing journey through new creations led by composer/ bandleader John Korsrud.
The 2017 VSO New Music Festival explores new creations, contemporary composers, and partnerships with Early Music Vancouver, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Hard Rubber Orchestra, and Standing Wave. Join us for an exciting celebration of music that is new, vibrant, vital, and on the cutting edge.
Formed by artistic director Korsrud in 1990, the Hard Rubber Orchestra has consistently been one of Canada’s most active and unpredictable ensembles of creative music. Over the past 25 years, the Society has produced both concerts and larger theatrical works including operas, avant ice shows, arts raves and commissioned more than 50 new works by composers Kenny Wheeler, Darcy James Argue, Scott Good, Brad Turner, Phil Dwyer, Michael Blake, Fred Stride, Hugh Fraser, Linda Bouchard, Howard Bashaw, Jean Derome and René Lussier among others. In 2017, Hard Rubber New Music Society will present RIOT in partnership with Electric Company Theatre and SFUW.
